Mesilla, NM

Mesilla is a small town by today's standards but, 150 years ago it was the major stop for travelers going between San Antonio and San Diego. Western Legend Billy the Kid once stood trial for murder in a Mesilla courtroom, and the Mesilla Plaza was once a major stop for the Butterfield Stagecoach.

Mesilla is just west of Las Cruces and is only about a ten minute drive from the University or Hotel Encanto. If shopping is your thing, Mesilla is the place to be. This historic gem offers great shopping; including a Nambe outlet, jewelry, clothes, books, wine, cooking, and local weaving.

A trip to Las Cruces is not complete until you indulge in some of our outstanding Mexican food. Mesilla is home to many great restaurants, but we recommend either La Posta or The Double Eagle. iole!

White Sands National Monument

White sands is truly something one must truly see to believe. Here, winds from the east blow gypsum deposits from the dry Lake Lucero, creating wave-like dunes of gypsum sand.

White Sands National Monument is only a 30-40 minute drive from Las Cruces.
