NSS conducts a broad array of activities to promote space exploration and development, and thus offers interns the chance to become involved in an assortment of projects. Whether students have a background in science, engineering, public policy, or communications, NSS internships provide a valuable supplement to formal education. Interns will experience their field in a "real-world" setting, and will learn to apply their knowledge and skills in an interdisciplinary environment. Interns will learn about American and international space programs, the new emerging markets of commercial space, how the federal government influences major science and technology programs, and the role advocacy organizations play in affecting government activities. Interns will be asked to shadow a members of NSS senior staff to meetings
to learn the inter working of the DC space community. Interns will attend
meetings with members of Congress, government officials, and senior corporate
leaders to learn about the aerospace community. The internship program
not only exposes interns to all aspects of the aerospace industry, NSS
also strongly emphasizes the importance of a solid educational background
in engineering, math, and science.
• Public Policy Internship: Intern will attend
Congressional briefings and assist the NSS staff with organization and
distribution of testimony, tracking legislation, and political action
events. Student major/discipline: • Eligibility is not limited to a particular major, but the program
is designed to enhance science, journalism, political science, or communications
and public affairs majors.
