DAY 1 OF ISPCS 2009 TO FOCUS ON SCALING DOWN
SYSTEMS FOR HUMAN SUBORBITAL SPACEFLIGHT

Human spaceflight topics are the key focus of Day One of the ISPCS 2009 conference, Chair Patricia Hynes announced this week. Informative discussion will be ongoing throughout the two day symposium. The emerging industry that will transport humans and cargo, hopefully providing low cost, reliable access to space for multiple purposes including scientific and engineering investigation, satellite delivery, commercial activity and pleasure, or what is being referred to as space tourism will all be addressed. The session will be highly interactive and invite audience questions.

A number of panels and talks on the opening day of the conference will focus on issues related to human spaceflight, including flight safety, ground and vehicle operations and pilot training. Safety and cost are the two benchmarks the emerging civilian spaceflight industry will be looking to keep in balance as systems become operational in the near future.

Jeff Greason will also brief us on the results and process of the Augustine Panel deliberations.

James Van Laak will chair the “Lessons Learned and Opportunities for Innovation,” panel featuring both established and new space companies. Mr. Van Laak, is the Deputy Associate Administrator for Commercial Space Transportation at the FAA and has been involved in creating a community of collaborators in this industry.

Nowhere else will you find panels with the level of expertise ISPCS panelists have that focus on issues related to civilian access to space for humans and cargo.
