LEADING EDGE CONTENT, NETWORKING
ATTRACT ATTENDEES TO ISPCS 2009
Surveys taken after the previous two ISPCS conferences indicate attendees are drawn to the industry’s leading symposium dedicated to spaceflight for mankind for two primary reasons:
1. Leading edge content from renowned and inspirational presenters.
2. Interaction with high profile industry leaders and networking with a “whose who” of the visionaries and builders delivering the promise of spaceflight for mankind.
Nuts & Bolts Sessions
The industry passed a significant milestone with the recent test flights of WhiteKnightTwo. Within the next twenty four months it will undergo another transformative phase when it starts flying civilians and cargo to space.
The International Symposium for Personal and Commercial Spaceflight, ISPCS 2009, scheduled for October 21 & 22 in Las Cruces, NM, will feature more “nuts and bolts” sessions where everyone – speakers and attendees alike – can engage in comprehensive discussions on some of the biggest challenges confronting personal and commercial spaceflight today. ISPCS is the only venue dedicated to this rapidly growing sector of human spaceflight, with an information–packed agenda:
Wednesday, October 21st will be devoted to human spaceflight. The first session of the day will focus on issues related to flight safety, including germane safety lessons and flight safety philosophy applied to space vehicle design. The session will be chaired by Wayne Hale, past Shuttle Program Manager.
Also on Wednesday, noted Naval aviator and astronaut Micheal Lopez Alegria will chair a discussion with new space vehicle pilots. Michael has flown 30 different aircraft, logged 267 hours in space, performed 10 EVAs, and is an engineering test pilot. The session is targeted at private pilots, and also to engage ISPCS attendees in the imminent civilian astronaut experience.
Thursday, October 22nd will focus on the commercial spaceflight business. Alan Stern, past NASA Associate Administrator for the Science Mission Directorate, will chair a panel addressing the suborbital future beyond tourism, namely, the research and education markets. Panelists in this session represent a variety of research disciplines with broad applications to suborbital flight. Other speakers on Thursday will address small satellite manufacturing, launch systems for small satellites, and spaceports as service providers for these businesses.
Unique Plenary and Networking Sessions
All ISPCS sessions are plenary, allowing everyone to receive the same information simultaneously. Responding to feedback, ISPCS has created multiple means of engaging the audience in discussions with speakers during sessions. Additional networking opportunities are scheduled throughout the two days.
Government agencies, industry titans, spaceflight visionaries and thought leaders for human spaceflight, all recognize ISPCS is the personal and commercial spaceflight industry’s leading conference. They will be in Las Cruces in October for ISPCS 2009. We hope you will join us too!
Held October 21 and 22 in Las Cruces, New Mexico, USA, ISPCS is organized by the New Mexico Space Grant Consortium, a member of the National Space Grant College and Fellowship Program, administered by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA).
