During the summer thunderstorm season, students will join in the construction and deployment of instruments around the Laboratory, which is located at 10,600 feet above sea level in the Magdalena Mountains of central New Mexico. Some of the instruments will be flown on balloons into thunderstorms while others will operate on the ground beneath storms. The students will gain experience in solving a variety of problems
arising from operating instruments where they can be damaged by rain,
icing, and lightning. |
