| Leonard R. Sugerman Space Grant Endowed Scholarship |
The Leonard R. Sugerman Space Grant Endowed Scholarship for Science, Math, Engineering, Technology, Education and Research is an annual award of up to $2,000 to undergraduate students. Students selected for this scholarship must demonstrate extraordinary scholarship, leadership and interest in programs which will enhance their undergraduate experience through involvement in research. NMSGC will award scholarships for students to work with faculty on funded research. Students attending an NMSGC partner institution of higher education in New Mexico may apply for this scholarship. Col. Sugerman has been a supporter of New Mexico Space Grant since it began in 1989. His interest in space goes back to his days in the Air Force. His responsibilities with the Air Force included the development, production and testing of self-contained navigation equipment for tactical and strategic aircraft, missile, satellite and re-entry systems. He served as Assistant to the Director of the Physical Science Laboratory at New Mexico State University from retirement until his death. Col. Sugerman passed away on July 7, 2006, leaving a legacy that includes this scholarship. Student eligibility requirements If a student becomes ineligible or drops out of the program before completion, unused funds revert back to NMSGC. Matching funds are encouraged for all applicants.
